I had a email conversation with Dr Charles Deehr of the University of Alaska at Fairbanks and he talked about a modulation of the solar cycles of about 80-100 years, with those around the turn of a century being lower that those of mid-century. He said that is somewhat speculative and no cause and effect has been established.
